Hi Father Abe,

I am no expert nor lawyer but from what i have read, Art 2 of Summorum Pontificum is talking about private masses since there should be only one mass in each day for the Easter Triduum. A priest cannot say an Easter Triduum private mass in any form and then a "public" mass with the people in any form. Hence "For such celebrations, with either one Missal or the other, the priest has no need for permission from the Apostolic See or from his Ordinary." So basically, the priest has freedom to choose if he'll use extraordinary form or the ordinary form for the Easter Triduum.

That is true. The prohibition is on the celebration of the private Mass during the Easter Triduum. In fact, this prohibition applies also to the Ordinary Form. the Easter Triduum can be celebrated only in Cathedrals and Parish Churches. If I am not mistaken, the Easter Triduum cannot be celebrated in Semi-public and in private oratories whether in the Ordinary Form or in the extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.
